Kristin’s Story

Kristin is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in painting and surface pattern design. As an intuitive and process based artist, Kristin focuses on two bodies of painting work: abstracted florals and abstracted landscapes. She states: “My work is about connecting with the ‘in between’ moments in nature… flurries of flower petals in the spring… the magic of golden hour… using the unpredictable nature of paint to create moments of their own. I strive to capture the ever present sense of movement and change in nature through a lens of calm stillness.”

When the pandemic started in 2020, Kristin created a self-guided curriculum for learning surface pattern design. She is currently creating a portfolio of surface pattern design using a combination of watercolor and digital imagery.

In her early 20’s, Kristin took her first art class and continued on to receive a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her time at RISD included a year of independent study in Rome, Italy as part of the European Honors Program. Living in Europe instilled a love of travel and a penchant for cooking and exploring the food of many locales. Cooking has become an integral part of her creative process, as it is an opportunity for exploration and honing intuitive skills that inform her studio practice. While at RISD, Kristin also explored two other areas of creative interest: printmaking and photography. Each have brought different perspectives and approaches to creating paintings through their respective processes.

As a resident of Seattle, WA, Kristin has worked with, and for local designers, most notably at Maison Luxe with designer Kelie Grosso. These experiences provided a unique and beneficial understanding of how clients view and understand artwork in their homes.

In 2019, Kristin began teaching watercolor workshops and plans to offer them again in the near future. Kristin currently volunteers for the Vibrant Palette Arts Center.

Kristin’s work is included in the collections of Swedish Hospital, Seattle, WA, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle WA, and the Seattle Tennis Club as well as several private collections. View her CV here.
